Wooden cutlery is a commonly used and popular option in our daily lives. It is not only compostable and biodegradable, but also convenient to use. However, many people may wonder how to properly clean and disinfect wooden cutlery.

As a professional wooden cutlery manufacturer, Vinzor Wood is here to provide you with a detailed introduction and guide on how to clean and disinfect wooden cutlery effectively.

There are 4 methods for you to clean & disinfect reusable wooden cutlery.

Use Warm Water to Clean Them:

To clean wooden cutlery, rinse them with warm water after each use. Use dish soap and a gentle cleaning tool, like a dishwashing sponge, to remove any food residue. Avoid soaking the wooden utensils in water, as this can lead to bacterial growth and potential cracking in the future. Additionally, do not clean them in a dishwasher, as the fast drying function can damage the surfaces of the utensils. After cleaning, dry the wooden cutlery with a clean towel before storing them, instead of letting them air dry.

Remove stubborn stains and remove odors:

After step one, we can clean most of dirt. Maybe it will have some odors & stubborn stains still left.

You have 3 options:

  • Use baking soda powder and lemon juice
  • Use Sodium Percarbonate
  • Use Vinegar

Disinfecting by Hydrogen Peroxide:

You can do further disinfection by hydrogen peroxide. Put your wooden cutlery in sink and then pour hydrogen peroxide over them. Use your hand together with a clean mop to wash them. Several minutes later when you finish the work, at last wash them again with warm water & make it dry.

Maintance:

As we know the surface of wooden cutlery will get rough after many times use. And we can do some maintance at that time.

Start by using sandpaper to lightly grind the surface of the utensils. Then, apply a thin layer of oil, such as mineral oil or vegetable oil, using a kitchen towel or clean cloth. Let the utensils sit for about 20 minutes, allowing the oil to penetrate the wood. Finally, wipe the utensils clean with a fresh kitchen towel or cloth. Regularly oiling the wooden cutlery will also help extend its durability.
