The growth of the market is also led by various measures taken by governments across the regions to promote efficient lighting technology. For instance, in February 2022, the European Union released updated regulations under the Ecodesign Directive and the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive that will together eliminate virtually all fluorescent lighting in 2023. Also, according to International Energy Agency, in Africa, 16 countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have adopted a regionally harmonized lighting standard to push LEDs in the market pawing a way for efficient lighting with reduced cost, consumption, and carbon emission. Similarly, countries in East African Community (EAC) have also adopted lighting regulations to phase out fluorescent.
